About The Position

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly-motivated attorney who is passionate about public service to join her office as an Assistant Attorney General in the Privacy and Responsible Technology Division (PRTD). The Division, which is part of the Attorney General’s Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau, investigates and litigates consumer protection issues involving social media, artificial intelligence, data security and privacy, and other manipulative or unfair uses of technology.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar or eligible for admission in short order.
  • Clear and persuasive written and oral communication skills and legal research capabilities.
  • Effective organizational skills, time management abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate on differing matters with teams whose members have various experience levels and skill sets.
  • Sound and thoughtful judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Applicants must be Massachusetts Bar eligible at the time of application and must apply for admission before their start date.
  • The successful candidate will be able to learn complex ideas and concepts and effectively explain them to a court, jury, or the public.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three (3) years (which may include judicial clerkships) of complex litigation experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts consumer protection laws and data security laws, and/or state or federal privacy laws is a plus, but is not required.
  • The applicant should have a strong interest in the areas addressed by PRTD, but legal or technical experience in such subject matter areas is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify key issues for investigation
  • Engage in discovery, depositions, and motion practice
  • Collaborate with other state and federal enforcement entities
  • Negotiate resolutions that serve the public interest
  • Assist in educational and policy work to protect privacy and security interests and to prevent the unfair and deceptive use of technology
