About The Position

The Missouri Attorney General's Office is actively seeking attorneys with excellent credentials for an Assistant Attorney General/Unit Leader position in the Civil Trial Section located in St. Louis. The Civil Trial Section is responsible for vigorously defending the State of Missouri, including state officials, agencies, and individual employees across all levels of government. This section frequently handles the office's largest and most complex litigation and works to protect Missouri's laws from statutory or constitutional challenges. The section represents numerous state agencies, as well as law enforcement, defending officers of certain agencies. The Unit Leader will be responsible for supervising attorneys who appear in federal and state courts, covering various practice areas including, but not limited to, class-actions, employment, personal injury, and civil rights suits.

Requirements

• Licensed to practice law in Missouri or able to quickly obtain a Missouri license

Nice To Haves

• 3 years or more experience in civil defense litigation
• Jury trial experience
• State and Federal court experience
• Management or mentorship experience
• Excellent legal writing, oral advocacy, and litigation strategy skills

Responsibilities

• Supervise attorneys appearing in federal and state courts
• Maintain their own caseload
• Oversee cases through all stages of litigation, including appeals
• Jury trial practice
• Conduct weekly attorney mentoring meetings
• Meet with agency clients
• Build collaboration across the section
• Develop and provide training for the section
