About The Position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer works to prevent athletic injuries and illness, evaluate and treat athletic injuries, and assist with the coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for contests and practices. This position also assists with the overall operation and administration of the Sports Medicine Department. This position may be asked to supervise one or more student employees in the Physical Education/Athletics department.

Requirements

  • Certification from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) required.
  • CPR/AED required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required or an equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.
  • Deploy professional skills in athletics first aid, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and athletics training, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the Colleges’ strategic interests.
  • Demonstrate effective, accurate, and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, customer service, and leadership skills to supervise, facilitate, motivate, and inspire a highly diverse group of student employees. Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments.
  • Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software. Use assigned technology/devices/equipment to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.
  • Handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy, and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Prioritize and perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the Colleges, with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the Colleges’ strategic visions and the division’s/department’s annual goals.
  • Use exceptional/strong organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.
  • Working in an Athletic environment requires prolonged standing, sitting, kneeling, and stooping.
  • Work collaboratively with coaches and other members of the department.
  • Demonstrate commitment to inclusion, community, diversity, and gender equity.
  • Must be residents of California.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience at an academic institution is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prevent, treat, and rehabilitate athletic injuries.
  • Provide medical coverage for practices and games.
  • Provide counseling and education to student-athletes.
  • Document and maintain injury reports and progress notes in a timely manner.
  • Administration of athletic insurance claims in a timely manner.
  • Oversee athletic training students and assist with athletic training interns and their oversight.
