Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Health and Wellness, Director of Athletics, and Team Physicians, the Assistant Athletic Trainer assists in all aspects of prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Develops and administers rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries. The incumbent attends practices and athletic events and provides emergency medical coverage to student-athletes. Maintains updated files and accurate medical records.

Requirements

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or related field of study, or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Coursework must include completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements.
Minimum 2 years of experience as a certified athletic trainer, preferred.
Athletic training experience with both women’s and men’s teams and classroom or clinical teaching experience in an accredited undergraduate curriculum, desired.
Classroom or clinical teaching experience in an accredited undergraduate curriculum preferred.
Current NATABOC Certification; current CPR with AED Certifications.
Knowledge of athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation principles, emergency medical procedures, and athletic training practices.
Skill in developing and administering rehabilitation programs, providing emergency medical coverage, maintaining accurate medical records, and applying infection-control and sanitation procedures.
Ability to coordinate clinical and physician appointments, communicate injury status and treatment plans clearly, collaborate with coaching staff and healthcare professionals, and support student-athletes across varied settings.
Ability to maintain organized inventory systems, properly use and care for athletic training supplies and equipment, travel with sports teams as needed, and assist with the development and instruction of Kinesiology Athletic Education Program students.

Responsibilities

Assists in all aspects of prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for approximately 370 student-athletes.
Develops and administers rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
Attends practices and athletic events and provides emergency medical coverage to student-athletes.
Maintains updated files and accurate medical records of the following: athletic injuries, medical insurance, medical history, injury referrals, conditioning programs, schedules, and other necessary data.
Coordinates clinical and physician appointments between the athlete and SHC or outside referral.
Performs other duties as assigned.
