About The Position

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer to join their Intercollegiate Athletics team. This role supports comprehensive athletic medicine services, including injury care, medical coordination, recordkeeping, and daily clinic operations, contributing to athlete wellbeing and performance outcomes across intercollegiate programs. The position is temporary, expected to last no more than 9 months. UCCS is located at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado Springs, offering a vibrant community with outdoor adventures and a growing tech scene.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or related field of study or combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge and abilities to be an athletic trainer is required.
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer, Colorado State athletic training licensure and CPR/AED is required.
  • Current unrestricted license with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) is required.
  • Adherence to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Code of Ethics is mandatory.
  • Experience in medical documentation standards and electronic health record systems, with the ability to maintain accurate, confidential records and efficiently track athlete health information, insurance details, and care plans in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements is required.
  • Experience with athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques, with the ability to make sound clinical judgments and develop effective, individualized recovery programs that support safe return-to-play outcomes is required.
  • Ability to perform each of the established essential functions and meet the physical and environment demands described satisfactorily.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree in related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for approximately 370 student-athletes at UCCS and on the road.
  • Maintain updated files and accurate medical records of athletic injuries, medical insurance, medical history, injury referrals, conditioning programs, schedules, and other necessary data.
  • Maintain regular clear communication between athletic medicine staff, coaches, student athletes, and other UCCS employees as needed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the student athletes.
  • Coordinate clinical and physician appointments between the athlete and UCHealth or outside referral.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
