About The Position

The University of Southern Mississippi is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer specializing in Track & Field/Cross Country. This full-time staff position involves working closely with the Head Athletics Trainer and the Athletic Training Staff in the daily operations of the athletic training room. The role includes providing medical healthcare for student athletes, supervising student athletic trainers, and assisting with the daily medical needs of the Track and Field/Cross Country Team, along with other assigned teams and administrative duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Athletic Training Education with NATABOC certification; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Must be eligible for licensure through the Mississippi State Department of Health.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or organizations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in sport management, science, business, or other related field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily operations of the athletic training room, including the direction of student athletic trainers in their assignments, in coordination with College of Nursing faculty.
  • Coordinate rehabilitation for assigned student athletes and assist other athletic training staff with rehabilitation as needed.
  • Attend varsity practices and competitions for the prevention and care of injuries sustained by student athletes.
  • Supervise graduate assistant athletic trainers in the daily medical care of student athletes.
  • Assist with the inventory and purchasing of medical supplies.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with the overall budget.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Head Athletic Trainer in their absence in the supervision of the Athletic Training Facility.
  • Assist with departmental drug testing programs and COVID Testing for all athletics programs.
  • Assist the Assistant Athletics Trainer in charge of insurance in providing proper paperwork for timely and efficient submission of insurance claims and records for student athletes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
