About The Position

Plymouth State University is seeking a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling to join the Counselor Education and School Psychology (CESP) Programs. The position begins August 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to preparing ethical, reflective, and skilled helping professionals by teaching graduate courses, advising students, engaging in service, and maintaining an active research agenda. The standard workload is 70% teaching, 15% service, and 15% research and scholarship, with optional summer teaching. The CESP Programs focus on evidence-informed practice, wellness, advocacy, and culturally responsive practice, preparing students for professional practice in a changing world. The programs offer master's, Education Specialist, and certification programs, with CACREP-accredited concentrations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. The learning environment is predominantly in-person, emphasizing active engagement, reflection, collaboration, and practical application, enriched by community partnerships and interdisciplinary learning.

Requirements

Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited institution, conferred by August 1, 2027.
Professional experience and expertise in clinical mental health counseling.
NCC eligibility and eligibility for clinical mental health counseling licensure.
Demonstrated potential for excellence in graduate teaching.
Demonstrated ability or potential to establish an active research and scholarship agenda.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to advise, mentor, and support graduate students.
Understanding and commitment to ethical and culturally responsive counseling practice.
Commitment to social justice, advocacy, and respect for diverse perspectives, identities, values, and lived experiences.
Competence with instructional technology and innovative course delivery strategies.
Commitment to evidence-informed practice, critical thinking, and continuous professional growth.
Expertise and professional experience in clinical mental health counseling are required.

Nice To Haves

Two or more years of successful graduate-level teaching experience.
Active involvement in professional counseling organizations.
Established research agenda with evidence of scholarly productivity and peer-reviewed publications.
School counseling experience and/or expertise working with children and adolescents.
Experience developing or maintaining partnerships with clinical mental health agencies or community organizations.
Experience with experiential, hands-on, or innovative approaches to counselor education.
Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration or community-engaged learning.
Experience as a school counselor is preferred.

Responsibilities

Teach graduate courses in the Counselor Education Programs, including courses in the CACREP core and Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization.
Advise, mentor, and support graduate counseling students throughout their academic and professional development.
Establish and maintain an active program of research and scholarship consistent with the Boyer Model.
Participate in university, professional, and community service activities.
Develop and sustain collaborative relationships with counselors, clinical mental health agencies, and other community partners throughout New Hampshire.
Contribute to curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous improvement.
Incorporate evidence-informed practices, critical thinking, and real-world professional applications into teaching and student learning.
Support innovative, experiential, and interdisciplinary approaches to counselor education.
Contribute to a learning environment that promotes personal growth, wellness, ethical practice, advocacy, and respect for individual and cultural differences.
