About The Position
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Eastern Virginia Medical School is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Maternal Fetal Medicine physician. The physician will provide outpatient and inpatient consultative care, manage complicated pregnancies, provide prenatal diagnosis and fetal ultrasound, and participate in labor and delivery coverage. The role includes shared night and weekend call, supervision of inpatient services, and teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and Advanced Practice Providers. Academic appointment and salary are commensurate with qualifications and are described as highly competitive regionally and nationally.
Requirements
- MD or DO.
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine.
- Currently licensed or able to obtain a license in Virginia.

Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing antenatal management and consultations for patients with maternal or fetal complications, including hypertensive disorders, diabetes and endocrine disorders, cardiac disease in pregnancy, multifetal gestation, adverse pregnancy outcome history, and preterm labor or birth risk.
- Interpret and counsel patients on genetic screening and diagnostic testing options; collaborate with genetic counselors; perform amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling; and counsel patients regarding abnormal ultrasound or laboratory findings.
- Perform and interpret ultrasounds, fetal echocardiography, and targeted imaging studies; participate in ultrasound quality assurance and protocol development; and supervise sonographers and imaging fellows, if applicable.
- Supervise and manage complex obstetric patients in labor and delivery, including patients with medical or surgical complications.
- Direct or supervise emergency obstetric interventions, maternal resuscitation, and high-acuity deliveries.
- Provide inpatient consultations and primary management for hospitalized pregnant patients with complex conditions, including periviable pregnancies, preeclampsia, PPROM, and fetal growth restriction.
- Perform and supervise obstetrical procedures, including cerclage placement, amnioreduction or amnioinfusion, external cephalic version, and invasive diagnostic or therapeutic fetal procedures such as shunts.
- Participate in a shared night and weekend call schedule with MFM colleagues and provide backup consultative support to general OB/GYN providers during off-hours.
- Supervise inpatient antepartum and delivery unit coverage, including resident and fellow interactions.
- Serve as attending physician for clinical rotations involving medical students, OB/GYN residents, MFM fellows, and Advanced Practice Providers.
- Provide real-time teaching during rounds, ultrasound sessions, and labor and delivery care.
