About The Position

Prairie View A&M University, a member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences. This is a nine-month tenure-track position that reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (CAFNR). The successful candidate will be expected to establish an innovative, externally funded research program in plant and soil sciences that addresses critical challenges affecting agricultural productivity, environmental resilience, and food security in Texas and beyond. Preference will be given to candidates whose work complements existing strengths in the plant, soil, and environmental sciences, as well as the natural resources research areas within the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Plant & Soil Sciences, Agronomy, Natural Resources, and/or Environmental Sciences or closely related fields.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication skills for various audiences.
  • Proficiency in the ability for effective teaching and scholarship.
  • Potential for obtaining external funding.
  • Support of professional organizations in the discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Plant and Soil Sciences, and Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students and work with student organizations.
  • Assist with the recruitment of students into the undergraduate agriculture degree program and the graduate program in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences.
  • Capitalize on current and emerging technologies to conduct research in areas such as soil fertility and sustainable nutrient management in forage systems, the physiological, genetic, molecular, or developmental mechanisms that influence plant productivity, quality, and adaptation, and physical, chemical, and biological processes that influence soil health and long-term agricultural productivity.
  • Publish results of this research in refereed journals.
  • Seek and acquire externally funded grants and contracts for relevant research projects.
  • Engage in service activities and professional developments with colleagues, the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
