About The Position

The Department of Political Science at the University of New Mexico invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position in International Relations to begin in August 2027. The appointment for this full-time position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor or at the rank of Associate Professor, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Applicants must have a PhD in Political Science or a related field by date of appointment. The new faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in international relations, supervise masters and doctoral students (including service on graduate mentorship committees), and contribute to core, required undergraduate and graduate courses.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Political Science or closely related field by start date of appointment
  • A primary specialization in International Relations

  • Demonstrated evidence of or potential for excellence in conducting substantively and theoretically significant research in international relations
  • Strong methodological expertise
  • Demonstrated or potential excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in international relations
  • Ability to mentor diverse students at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels
  • Demonstrated evidence or potential for obtaining extramural funding to support research and teaching
  • International research experience
  • Research program alignment with any of the following department priorities, including: Latin American politics, democratic representation and effective governance; environmental protection and adaptation; human rights, the rule of law, and/or conflict and conflict resolution; indigenous, race, gender and ethnic politics; or the impact on democracy of new communications and computational technologies
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultivating an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
