About The Position

The Department of Psychological Science and Neuroscience in the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Belmont University in Nashville (TN) is seeking applications for two tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 1st, 2027. Job responsibilities include twelve hours of undergraduate teaching per semester as well as other departmental, college, and university professional responsibilities, including academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activities, and service. Candidates must be committed to superior teaching, and teaching responsibilities will include a wide variety of courses for psychological science and neuroscience majors and minors and the broader Belmont undergraduate community. These may include General Psychology, Research Methods, Introduction to Neuroscience, Neurobiology, and specialized elective and/or laboratory courses depending on the candidate’s interests and training background. In addition to teaching courses, candidates are expected to engage in scholarly activity and the supervision of independent undergraduate research in an empirically-oriented department with roughly 150 neuroscience majors and minors and 300 psychological science majors and minors. Paid summer research and teaching opportunities are available to further scholarship and/or training activities. Student-led projects are presented yearly at regional and national conferences, including SYNAPSE, regional APA meetings, Society for Neuroscience, and Cognitive Neuroscience Society. At Belmont, a variety of scholarly productivity is valued, including the scholarship of teaching, discovery, integration, and application. Specific experimental psychological science and neuroscience focuses for the positions are open, as well as the models used (human, rat, zebrafish, computational, etc.). For one of these positions, a candidate with experience and/or interest in using fNIRS for human research is desired. In addition to an fNIRS setup, our lab spaces include an EEG suite, eye tracking and BIOPAC psychophysiology, computer software for cognitive experiments, rat housing and behavior apparatuses, brain tissue processing, histology, and microscopy, and an aquatic housing system for zebrafish breeding (and other aquatic species). Basic functions as required by Provost Office include: Complete 24 workload hours, or equivalent, per academic year. Advise and mentor students in research and other class-related projects. Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Belmont University and the college in which you teach. Participate in departmental and university committee work. Engage in scholarly activity and professional development. Advise students in course selection and degree completion. Participate in a local church and the community. Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies. Manage online grading system. Timely submission of book orders, if textbooks required. Maintain regular office hours. Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University.
Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Earned a Ph.D. in any area of neuroscience, psychology, or related field, or expected to complete all Ph.D. requirements by August 2027.
Completion of a background check satisfactory to the University.
