About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for the position of Lee Assistant/Associate Professor of Insurance & Risk Management within the Lee Business School. This role is part of the Ted and Doris Lee Family's $15 million endowment, which includes ten Lee Scholar professorships. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service, conducting significant research leading to high-quality refereed publications and performing service activities for the department, school, university, and profession. The position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in risk management, insurance, and other finance topics, with potential involvement in executive education and professional certificate programs.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Finance (or a closely related field) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
  • For Assistant Professor: Demonstrate strong potential for impactful research resulting in publication in leading academic journals and teaching effectiveness at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Evidence may include a pipeline of high-quality working papers, publications in reputable journals, and effective teaching evaluations.
  • For Associate Professor: Have an established record of scholarly achievement commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor at a research-intensive university. This includes a portfolio of publications in leading insurance-and-risk-management and related journals, demonstrated teaching excellence, and a record of service contributions to the department, school, university, or profession.
  • Candidates must demonstrate evidence of national or international recognition in their field and the ability to contribute to the department’s continued growth and reputation.

Nice To Haves

  • Research interests that strengthen the department's existing focus areas, particularly in risk management, insurance markets, insurance economics, actuarial science, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability or interest in teaching courses in risk management, insurance, and finance at multiple levels (undergraduate, graduate, and potentially Ph.D.).
  • Experience or interest in engaging with industry partners, insurance professionals, or regulators through outreach, executive education, or professional certificate programs.
  • Potential to contribute to the development of the Kerestesi Center for Insurance and Risk Management and to enhance the visibility of the department in the field.
  • Commitment to mentoring students and supporting the launch and growth of the department’s upcoming Ph.D. program.
