About The Position
Applications are invited for a tenure-track appointment as an Assistant/ Associate Professor in English with a contract starting August 2027. New Mexico Highlands University is an open-admissions university with over 70% of students being Hispanic, Native American, or African American, and nearly 40% studying at the master’s level. The university is committed to student success and improved retention and graduation rates. NMHU serves approximately 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students at the main campus in Las Vegas, NM (one hour east of Santa Fe) and another 1,300 students at centers in Rio Rancho, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Española, Farmington, and Raton. Requirements
- Doctorate or ABD in English, specializing in linguistics or related area, required by time of appointment.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and research.

Responsibilities
- Teaching responsibilities (18 credit hours in the first year; 24 credit hours in subsequent years) include undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics, grammar, history of the English language, composition, and other courses as assigned.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Conduct research in area of specialization.
- Present research at scholarly conferences and in professional publications.
- Teaching responsibilities may include half-semester courses and online synchronous or online asynchronous courses as assigned by chair.
- Assignment of courses and modalities will be dependent on departmental and student needs and enrollments.
