About The Position

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at The University of Alabama invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Elementary Education (grades PreK–6) with a specific interest in Literacy Education. The University of Alabama is a Research I institution with considerable emphasis on recruiting productive scholars and effective instructors. A successful candidate will have a Ph.D in either Reading/Literacy Education, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related filed, with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in literacy education, a strong potential to conduct high-quality research leading to publication, and teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s).

Requirements

  • Earned doctoral degree in Reading/Literacy Education, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related filed, with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in literacy education
  • Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience at the PreK–6 levels

Responsibilities

  • Ability to pursue a research agenda and external funding focusing on literacy education
  • Ability to teach courses in literacy and foundations of reading at the elementary and/or early childhood level
  • Ability to teach courses in elementary and/or early childhood reading and language arts methods
