Position Overview The Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling is seeking an outstanding professional counselor to join our team as a tenure track Assistant Professor. Texas A&M University-Kingsville offers a Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance and a CACREP accredited Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Requirements

  • An earned Doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited institution. ABD may be considered but must be completed by May 2026
  • Experience as a clinical mental health counselor and/or school counselor
  • Strong interpersonal, organization, and communication skills
  • Texas Licensed Professional Counselor credentials or be license-eligible as an LPC counselor in the state of Texas
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups
  • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies
  • Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning
  • Ability to facilitate and adapt course and the course content
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching graduate level online courses (synchronously and asynchronously) in clinical mental health counseling and/or school counseling
  • Leadership experience serving at the Department, College, University, and/or Professional level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and trends in the field of school counseling and/or clinical mental health counseling
  • Experience supervising graduate students
  • A record of scholarship in the counseling field
  • Knowledge of CACREP standards
  • Experience serving on doctoral dissertation committees

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate courses as assigned by the department
  • Deliver instruction in various formats, including online and on campus environments when needed
  • Maintain high standards of teaching effectiveness and student engagement
  • Develop course materials such as syllabi, assignments, and assessments aligned with departmental expectations.
  • Respond to online students in a timely way
  • Engage in scholarly or creative activities appropriate to the discipline, contributing to the university’s research mission
  • Maintain an active research agenda that may include publications, presentations, or applied scholarships
  • Incorporate research developments into teaching and curriculum updates, enhancing academic quality
  • Participate in departmental activities, including meetings, curriculum development, and assessment initiatives
  • Serve the university by contributing to program accreditation, student recruitment, and community engagement aligned with TAMUK’s mission of service to South Texas
  • Provide academic advising, mentorship, and guidance to students as part of departmental and institutional service expectations
  • Respond to colleges in a timely way
