About The Position

The Department of Counselor Education at Boise State University invites applications for an Clinical Assistant Professor of Counselor Education with preference for a focus on addiction, school, or clinical mental health counseling. The position will be starting in the fall semester of 2026. The faculty member will (a) teach a variety of counseling courses, including clinical courses such as practicum and/or internship; b) mentor and advise MA students; (c) provide coordination to the practicum clinic; and (d) participate in service activities at the University, College, and Department level, as well as engage in community and professional service activities. We seek to recruit a colleague who promotes fair access to educational opportunities and is responsive and cares about the success of all students we serve. This is a clinical, teaching-focused faculty position with primary responsibilities in graduate instruction, clinical supervision, and program coordination. Department overview: The Department of Counselor Education offers a CACREP-accredited Master of Arts in Counseling with cognates in School Counseling and Addiction Counseling . CACREP accreditation was recently reaffirmed through 2033. The program enrolls approximately 24 graduate students annually in a three-year, fully in-person cohort model. The program is supported by 5 full-time core faculty and experienced adjunct instructors. Students complete clinical training through an on-campus counseling training clinic that provides supervised counseling services to university students, as well as through a wide network of community internship placements. The department is housed within the School of Allied Health Sciences in the College of Health Sciences and is committed to preparing clinically skilled, socially responsive counselors. Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program completed by August 2026, OR be a doctoral candidate in a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral program with documented evidence of expected degree completion by Summer 2027. Continued appointment beyond the first year is contingent upon successful completion of the doctorate.
  • Minimum of two years post-master’s clinical counseling experience in counseling (i.e., clinical experience working children, adolescents, and/or adults)
  • Evidence of effective teaching and supervision in a CACREP-accredited program in Counselor Education or equivalent
  • Potential as a leader and advocate within the counseling profession
  • Strong desire to develop connections with campus and community partners
  • Experience or potential to contribute to coordination of the training practicum lab and to participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service
  • Eligible for Idaho LPC licensure within one year of hire ( https://dopl.idaho.gov/cou/ )
