About The Position

Faculty in the Nursing Program at Texas A&M University-Kingsville provide high-quality nursing education and support the institution’s mission. They are instrumental in developing, launching, and continuously improving new nursing programs. Responsibilities include planning, delivering, and evaluating classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical instruction. Faculty contribute to student success and program excellence through teaching, service, scholarship, and professional involvement. They also collaborate on curriculum design, accreditation, recruitment, and building community and clinical partnerships.

Requirements

  • Education – Earned doctorate in Nursing or a closely related field (PhD, DNP, EdD) by time of appointment.
  • Education – Master’s degree in Nursing if doctorate is in a related field
  • Experience – Demonstrated potential for effective teaching, mentorship, and scholarly activity.
  • Experience – Experience teaching in undergraduate and/or graduate nursing programs, including classroom, clinical, simulation, or online modalities.
  • Experience – Experience in curriculum development, accreditation, and assessment.
  • Experience – Teaching experience at the BSN level.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of nursing theory, practice, and clinical standards.
  • Familiarity with curriculum design and educational methodologies.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and regulatory requirements in nursing education.
  • Awareness of current trends and evidence-based practices in nursing.
  • Skills: Strong teaching and presentation skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to support student development and faculty collaboration.
  • Research skills and scholarly writing for academic contributions and program improvement.
  • Organizational and time management skills for balancing multiple responsibilities.
  • Abilities: Ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and improve nursing education and instruction.

  • Physical Requirements Ability to move between classrooms, labs, clinical sites and office environments.
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach clinical procedures, operate instructional equipment and handle medical supplies and simulators.
  • Sufficient vision and hearing to monitor student performance assess patient conditions and interact in classroom and clinical environments.
  • Ability to speak clearly and listen attentively.
  • Some lifting/carrying of classroom/presentation materials (i.e. ability to lift, carry, load or unload up to 25 lbs. of instructional/ recruiting materials)
  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines
  • This position is security sensitive
  • This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective classroom, simulation, laboratory, and clinical instruction using current, evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Develop and revise course materials to ensure alignment with program outcomes, AACN Essentials, TBON DECs, and other state/national standards.
  • Evaluate student learning and clinical performance using fair, consistent, and transparent methods.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progression, career development, and professional formation.
  • Promote student success by identifying learning needs and referring to appropriate support services.
  • Participate in faculty governance, departmental meetings, and assigned committee work.
  • Assist in recruitment, orientation, and mentoring of new faculty as appropriate.
  • Support program initiatives related to student admission, progression, and graduation standards.
  • Maintain productive relationships with clinical partners and assist in identifying/evaluating new clinical sites.
  • Participate in departmental and university ceremonies to celebrate student achievement (e.g., White Coat Ceremony, Pinning, MSN Hooding).
  • Remain current in nursing education and practice through professional development, continuing education, and clinical engagement.
  • Maintain active membership in professional nursing organizations and participate in local, state, and national activities that advance nursing education and practice.
  • Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, publications, or quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, profession, and community.
  • Demonstrate promise in teaching effectiveness and student engagement.
  • Initiate a program of scholarship (presentations, publications, research, or practice-based inquiry).
  • Participate in departmental, college, and professional service.
  • Demonstrate consistent teaching excellence, including innovative pedagogy and mentorship.
