About The Position

The Harrisburg University DPT program is a hybrid 3-year program. This core faculty position holds a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience, and carries academic, service, clinical, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the HU DPT program. Under the general direction of the DPT Program Lead, core faculty in this position are responsible for curriculum and content development in inpatient physical therapy, with advanced clinical expertise in either cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy or neurologic physical therapy, and for routine review and revision of course content to ensure consistency with contemporary evidence-based practice patterns in these areas. The HU DPT Program uses a hybrid educational model that combines online learning with intensive, hands-on laboratory immersion experiences. Core faculty work collaboratively to develop and deliver integrated course content, facilitate laboratory experiences, assess student performance, and support students throughout the curriculum, and are expected to teach effectively in both virtual and in-person environments, including intensive laboratory experiences at the Harrisburg campus. The core faculty member will cultivate each learner’s professional growth and will participate in coaching/mentoring learners. They will engage in scholarship activities, with priority for those which engage and enhance the academic and professional development of students. They are required to maintain competence in the academic field by remaining current in their own and related disciplines and in the most effective hybrid instructional methods. They will demonstrate effectiveness in the synthesis, interpretation, and communication of new knowledge. They will demonstrate experience in teaching, curriculum development, course coordination, student advising, teamwork, and scholarship. They will participate in service to HU and to the profession of physical therapy. They will assist and support the faculty team in all CAPTE accreditation activities. In addition to instructional and scholarly activity, this individual will participate in activities consistent with the policies of Harrisburg University. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position with instructional terms in spring, summer, and fall. Regular travel to the state of Pennsylvania is required. Participation in DPT program lab immersions is required.

Requirements

Earned Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist education program.
Active, unrestricted Pennsylvania Physical Therapy license, or eligibility to obtain Pennsylvania licensure prior to initiating teaching responsibilities.
Minimum of three years of full-time post-licensure clinical experience, including significant experience in inpatient physical therapy.
Demonstrated clinical expertise in either cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy or neurologic physical therapy.
Minimum of two years’ experience teaching or in curriculum development in a physical therapy education program, or teaching experience in a clinical, professional, or higher education setting.
Demonstrated ability to translate contemporary clinical evidence and practice into entry-level DPT education.
Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work cooperatively within a faculty team, including in a collaborative, co-teaching model.
Ability to teach effectively in both online and intensive in-person laboratory environments.
Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for teaching in physical therapy education.
Adherence to professional standards, including the APTA Core Values and Code of Ethics.
Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting students and the profession of physical therapy.

Nice To Haves

DPT with ABPTS Board Certified Clinical Specialization preferred.
Terminal academic degree preferred (i.e., PhD, EdD, DSc, DHSc).
Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: Acute care physical therapy, Intensive and critical care, Inpatient rehabilitation, Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation, Neurologic rehabilitation, Medically complex patient management, Patient monitoring and physiologic response to activity, Laboratory values and clinical decision-making, Acute and chronic disease management, Hospital-based mobility and functional training, Medical equipment, lines, tubes, and monitoring systems, Interprofessional healthcare practice, Care transitions and discharge planning.
Academic experience in a DPT entry-level educational program specific to inpatient, cardiovascular and pulmonary, neurologic, acute care, or medical management content.
ABPTS Board Certification as a Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist (CCS) or Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS).
Clinical experience across multiple inpatient settings, including acute care, critical care, inpatient rehabilitation, long-term acute care, or other hospital-based environments.
Knowledge and experience in a hybrid educational model, or a development plan to improve skillset in distance learning/hybrid instruction.
Experience facilitating intensive laboratory, simulation, or immersive learning experiences.
Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness and desire to implement new and current technologies in both distance and onsite educational environments.
Experience with collaborative or team-based course development and co-teaching.
Demonstrated innovation, organization, problem solving, leadership, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills in areas related to professional practice.
Evidence of an established or developing scholarly agenda.
Experience mentoring, advising, or coaching graduate or professional students.

Responsibilities

Develop, deliver, and routinely assess and refine course content within area of clinical expertise (cardiovascular and pulmonary and/or neurologic physical therapy), and contribute to inpatient and acute care physical therapy content throughout the curriculum, integrating contemporary clinical practice, current evidence, clinical practice guidelines, and healthcare standards.
Ensure the scope, depth, and breadth of course content, and maintenance of current records of student participation and grades, comply with program and CAPTE standards.
Develop and administer effective student learning assessments, including written and practical examinations, skills assessments, case-based assignments, and other competency-based assessments, to determine achievement of student learning outcomes in classroom and/or laboratory settings.
Collaborate with faculty in a co-teaching model to integrate content across courses and curricular areas, and participate actively in on-campus laboratory immersions and other required in-person DPT educational experiences.
Provide learner coaching consistent with the HU DPT learner coaching model, including meeting with assigned students to review academic progress, establish goals, identify opportunities for development, and connect students with appropriate resources; participate in student remediation and academic support processes as appropriate.
Provide training and mentoring for course and lab assistants.
Establish and maintain a scholarly agenda consistent with area of expertise and Harrisburg University expectations, and disseminate scholarly work through peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, research activities, educational scholarship, or other appropriate scholarly products.
Participate in DPT programmatic activities to support program development, assessment, accreditation, and maintenance of a high-quality DPT program, including curriculum mapping, program outcome assessment, faculty evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.
Provide support for CAPTE self-study and annual accreditation activities, student ceremonies, DPT faculty committees, and faculty search committees, and assist with preparation and maintenance of accreditation reports, self-study documentation, and other required program materials.
Contribute to student recruitment, admissions, orientation, and other program activities, and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with clinical partners and members of the physical therapy and healthcare communities.
Attendance at DPT meetings and educational events is expected.
Participate in faculty development in area of content expertise, hybrid course delivery, and virtual reality and immersive technology.
Contribute to an environment that promotes growth, equity, and freedom of speech.
