About The Position

The Associate Program Director assists the Program Director with administering and maintaining an educational environment, aligned with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Pathways to Excellence, conducive to educating fellows in each of the ACGME competency areas. Serve in the capacity of the Program Director in their absence. Assist the PD with the ACGME Annual Program Evaluation. Assist with the management of clinical rotation and call schedules to ensure they meet duty hour requirements. Provide instruction and mentorship to medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and faculty across clinical and academic settings. Regularly participate in organized clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, and conferences. Conduct, support, and promote research and scholarly activity within the division. Demonstrate commitment to the education of fellow physicians in all competencies pertinent to the subspecialty and serve as a role model of professionalism. Serve on Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee. Assess learner competencies and assist with mediation and remediation, including developing individualized learning plans as needed. Perform additional academic, clinical, and scholarly responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an appropriate residency and fellowship training program approved by the ACGME or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Maintaining board certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Valid Hawaii Medical license by date of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • Organizational skills and leadership abilities.
  • Four years in the rank of Assistant Professor, or four years of other health care experience, or a total of four years of teaching in the rank of Assistant Professor and other experience, or one year at the rank of Associate Professor at another health care school of recognized standing (for Associate Professor rank).
  • Proven ability in teaching, research, and program administration (for Associate Professor rank).
  • Recognition for having made a significant scholarly contribution to the clinical specialty (for Associate Professor rank).
  • Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues (for Associate Professor rank).
  • Evidence of excellent patient care in a collaborative environment (for Associate Professor rank).
  • Experience in academic and/or clinical program administration (for Associate Professor rank).
  • Experience functioning in a complex system of multiple organizations and stakeholders (for Associate Professor rank).
  • Familiarity with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and ACGME requirements (for Associate Professor rank).

  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Eligibility for clinical privileges at The Queen’s Health Systems or Hawaii Pacific Health.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and evaluation, provider of educational activities as required by the LCME, ACGME, and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
