About The Position

The Department of Fine Arts at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applicants for a tenure track position teaching Fine Arts courses. Experience working with undergraduates using innovative course delivery methods, student-centered techniques, and delivery of real-world experiences for students are highly desired. The ideal candidate will contribute to the mission of preparing students from a variety of backgrounds to be successful. Beyond teaching classes, experience with placement or remediation is necessary. In addition, the individual filing this position will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate coursework, in research/scholarship, and service to the Department, University, and the Profession.

Requirements

  • MFA degree in Graphic Design, Illustration, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, or other relevant arts disciplines from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
  • College level teaching experience. (HBCU preferred)
  • Proficiency in industry standard graphic design software: Adobe CC (Ps, Ai, Id, Ae)
  • Proficiency in all forms of drawing and painting with exceptional professional standards
  • Experience in one or more of the following: drawing, painting, printmaking, illustration, graphic design, sculpture (analog or digital)
  • A portfolio with 20 works in PDF format
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with Canvas or a related Learning Management System.

Nice To Haves

  • A history of gallery exhibitions and/or publications
  • Interest and/or expertise in bridging the gap between Fine Arts, Illustration, and Graphic Design.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the painting and drawing classes of the Applied Design major.
  • Teach 12 credit hours a semester.
  • Hold regular office hours and attend scheduled meetings.
  • Recruit and advise students, be actively engaged in research in the fields of painting and/or drawing.
  • Contribute service to the department, university and community.
  • Demonstrate a strong, self-motivated work ethic, flexibility, and demonstrate capability to work both independently and constructively as a member of a diverse community.
  • Demonstrate a strong, unwavering commitment to fostering an anti-racist, equitable work environment supportive of people from different cultures, backgrounds, and life paths.

  • Performs other related duties assigned by the department Chair.
