About The Position

The Department of Marketing in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas invites applications for the Andy and Mary Murray Endowed Chair in the Future of Commerce, an Assistant/Associate or Full Professor of Practice (Open Rank) position to begin in Fall 2026. This non-tenure-track role offers a unique opportunity to join a nationally ranked business school located in one of the country’s most dynamic business ecosystems. The Andy and Mary Murray Endowed Chair in the Future of Commerce is designed to support a highly qualified faculty member in advancing the understanding and practice of modern commerce. The chair provides resources to conduct industry-focused research, host and participate in conferences on the future of commerce and develop innovative programs that expose students to the technologies, people, and processes shaping industry trends. As the Murray Chair, you will have a platform to equip students with multidisciplinary, real-world knowledge and critical thinking skills essential for leadership in modern commerce. You will serve as a connector between academia and industry—collaborating with scholars, executives, and thought leaders to explore and respond to emerging trends. This role is ideal for someone who values the academic process and research, is passionate about student success, and brings a leadership mindset informed by high-level business experience. The successful candidate will teach courses primarily at the undergraduate level. Teaching responsibilities may include Product Development, Retail Strategy, Digital Marketing, and other courses based on department and Walton College program needs that are aligned with candidate expertise. The candidate will also work closely with the Dean’s office on special projects related to this role and contribute to service activities at the department, college, and university levels. Regular on-campus availability, in-person teaching, and active contribution to the life of the department, including exhibiting respect and cooperation in shared academic and administrative tasks are essential duties.

Requirements

  • Business terminal degree (Ph.D. or DBA) from an AACSB-accredited (or equivalent) college of business, conferred by the time the candidate begins the position
  • Executive and/or entrepreneurial experience with leadership responsibilities, strategic decision-making, and a deep understanding of business operations and goals
  • Qualifications enabling them to be classified as a Scholarly Academic or Practice Academic under AACSB standards – such as recent Ph.D. attainment, publications, and/or sustained professional engagement through outreach, consulting, or industry-facing activities

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. from an institution with an R1 Carnegie Classification, conferred by the time the candidate begins the position
  • Experience teaching at the university level
  • Evidence of high-quality undergraduate teaching in a business school
  • Active involvement in scholarly and/or industry presentations

Responsibilities
