About The Position

The Charleston School of Law seeks an Assistant (entry-level) or Associate (experienced) Director for Academic and Bar Success. This role is crucial in supporting students throughout their law school journey, from orientation to bar licensure. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching academic and bar success courses, providing one-on-one student support, and staying current with NextGen Bar Exam developments. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position that collaborates with a team to uphold the School's mission of ensuring student success. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with the skills needed for law students to succeed.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Knowledge of the Uniform Bar Exam and the NextGen Bar Exam.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Involvement in all stages of law students' journeys from Orientation to becoming a licensed attorney.
  • Teach a variety of courses including sessions during Orientation, which focus on foundational skills.
  • Teach a 1L class which is similar to a structured study group to help select students in their second semester.
  • Teach a 2L class which provides comprehensive training in essential lawyering skills such as: client interviewing and counseling, legal research and investigation, and persuasive fact analysis.
  • Teach a 3L class which is a bar prep course taken in their last semester.
  • Assist in the design and execution of workshops throughout the school year.
  • Engage in 1-on-1 support for students at-risk or on probation.
  • Serve as a bar study coach during the graduates' full-time bar study journey.
