About The Position

Northeastern University is a global leader in cooperative education and experiential learning in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The Office of the Chancellor is seeking a Co-op Coordinator to work with students and employer partners, with an initial focus on College of Engineering undergraduate programs. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position based at the Boston campus and will observe a hybrid work schedule. You will join an inclusive team of 25+ faculty and staff working collaboratively to deliver an outstanding cooperative education program to engineering students.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in college student development, counseling, education, or a related engineering/science or business-related field is required by the appointment start date.
  • A minimum of three years of professional work experience.
  • Teaching experience in a classroom environment or comparable experience with presentation skills in a business or workshop environment.
  • Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual’s career development.
  • Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience in the engineering profession or in career development and counseling of engineering students is a plus.
  • Experience working with an international student population.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new partnerships and expand current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni throughout the US and globally.
  • Engage in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry/field, employers, and positions.
  • Conduct site visits to new and existing employers.
  • Outreach to potential new co-op employer partners.
  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations.
  • Guide students through their career development and co-op experiences.
  • Educate, advise and coach students, developing and delivering effective teaching and advising programs that enable students to be successful in today’s global environment.
  • Work with students one-on-one, in workshops and in the classroom.
  • Teach career education courses each semester, including job search strategy, interviewing skills, resume writing, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, and other relevant learning objectives.
  • Maintain contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and work with students through their post-co-op reflection.
  • Collaborate with college academic faculty, leadership, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences.
  • Share knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
  • Deliver presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students.
  • Participate in committees and task forces.
  • Advise/support a student club.
  • Contribute to a professional society.
