About The Position

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech seeks applications for a non-tenure track Collegiate Faculty position at the Assistant or Associate level, depending on experience and qualifications, in the broad areas of controls and vibrations engineering with an anticipated start date of August 2027. We are seeking candidates who are committed to a career in teaching. The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate courses in both regular and laboratory classroom settings, as well as in distance-learning environments. There is the possibility of teaching graduate courses. The position also includes contributions to departmental service and the mentoring and advising of students. We are seeking candidates who have teaching interests in the areas of controls and vibrations engineering in addition to expertise in design, technical electives, capstone senior design, leadership/entrepreneurship, and instrumentation/experimental-methods courses. Candidates with industry experience are especially encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates based on credentials and experience in the areas of controls and vibrations engineering who can also teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses.

Requirements

  • Hold a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start of their appointment.

  • Teaching experience as the lead instructor in mechanical engineering undergraduate courses is preferred.
