Assistant Asphalt Plant Operator (APO)
About The Position
Banks Construction Company is seeking a dependable, safety-minded Assistant Asphalt Plant Operator (APO) to support its asphalt plant operations. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, operating equipment, and contributing to the production side of heavy civil construction. The APO will support daily ground operations at asphalt plants, crushers, and unloading facilities, assisting with material organization, plant maintenance, unloading operations, and collaborating with the plant team to ensure safe and efficient production. Banks Construction operates three asphalt plant locations in North Charleston, Summerville, and Walterboro, with plants running day and night to meet project schedules and customer demands.
Requirements
- 1–2 years of equipment, plant, construction, manufacturing, warehouse, mechanic, or hands-on labor experience.
- Comfortable working around asphalt plants, crushers, trucks, conveyors, materials, noise, dust, and other safety-sensitive conditions.
- Willing to learn plant operations, material handling, and basic maintenance tasks.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate clearly with team members.
- Takes safety seriously.
- Dependable and shows up on time.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Wants to learn and grow in asphalt production and heavy civil construction.
- Flexible and available to work day or night shifts as needed.
- Willing to work at plant locations in North Charleston, Summerville, and Walterboro as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Willing to help with general plant tasks as needed.
Nice To Haves
- Previous asphalt plant, quarry, construction, equipment, mechanic, maintenance, warehouse, manufacturing, or material handling experience is helpful.
Responsibilities
- Assist with plant ground operations, material handling, basic maintenance, and general plant support.
- Monitor material piles and communicate levels to plant leadership.
- Keep aggregate material piles clean and organized.
- Grease plant equipment and check oil levels on machines and equipment.
- Assist with unloading liquid materials, lime, aggregate, and other plant materials.
- Run the water truck as required.
- Keep plant areas, including the yard, tower, and work areas, clean and organized.
- Support crusher and unloading facility operations.
- Assist with changing out bad rollers and other basic plant maintenance tasks.
- Work around asphalt plants, crushers, conveyors, trucks, equipment, and materials.
- Communicate with plant team members to support daily production needs.
- Follow all company safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
- Help with other plant facility tasks as needed.
