About The Position

Under general supervision of the Director, investigates complaints regarding animals. This position requires the selected candidate be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire. This position will include rotating on call night, weekend, and/or holiday shifts. This position requires the selected candidate to become certified/proficient in administering Oral, Topical, IV and Vaccination medication to animals. This position is expected to maintain the Feral and Quarantine sections of the animal shelter to include: feeding, cleaning, sanitizing, monitoring animal health/behavior, administering required medication, and animal exercise/enrichment.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
Must be certified/proficient in administering Oral, Topical, IV and Vaccination medication to animals.
High school graduation or equivalent.
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience related to animal care, animal control, wildlife services or other related experience.
Knowledge in methods of handling and transporting large and small animals.
Knowledge of safety precautions in capturing, housing, and disposing of animals.
Working knowledge of county ordinances regarding animals.
Knowledge of effective communication.
Skilled in public relations and sound decision making in stressful situations.
Ability to capture, house, and dispose of stray and dangerous animals without endangering the public.
Ability to perform routine clerical duties necessary to complete reports and issue dog licenses.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish good working relations with employees, the public, and other agencies.
Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.
Must attend required certification courses and maintain required yearly training hours as outlined by the department.
Successful candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

Investigates complaints regarding animals.
Collects and disposes of animals.
Collects fees and issues dog licenses.
Issues citations for animal control violations and appears in court as a witness to assist in the prosecution of violators.
Captures stray and dangerous animals in the unincorporated part of Weber County and in cities and towns who contract for services with Weber County.
Quarantines animals that have caused injuries.
Handles animals who are suspected of carrying rabies or other diseases as described by law.
Receives complaints by phone and in person about stray and dangerous animals.
Mediates disputes between neighbors.
Investigates complaints and determines proper action necessary for resolution.
Provides individuals and cities with information pertaining to laws and ordinances governing the keeping of animals in Weber County.
Feeding, cleaning, sanitizing, monitoring animal health/behavior, administering required medication, and animal exercise/enrichment for the Feral and Quarantine sections of the animal shelter.
