Vacancy is in the Animal Control Division of the Hartford Police Department. Under general supervision of the Chief of Police performs moderately difficult work in impounding and caring for unlicensed, roaming, injured, mistreated, diseased, vicious or dangerous dogs or other animals. Maintains records of all activities, complaints, arrests and daily functions including redemption and sale of dogs and receipts. Transports impounded animals to the pound or Humane Society. Responsible for the proper care and control over the pound and the impounded dogs. Prepares quarantine notices and forwards them to the State and owners of diseased dogs. Answers all complaints and enforces the State Statutes and City Ordinances regarding animals. Conducts surveys of dogs in the city; prepares reports of unlicensed dogs and forwards them to the Town Clerk's Office; notifies owners of unlicensed dogs of license requirements. Tries to find homes for suitable unclaimed dogs. Transports animal remains to Health Department for autopsy. Investigates complaints of stolen dogs.
