About The Position

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Assistant Administrator to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for a dedicated Assistant Administrator for our Families w/ Children facility located in the Soundview area of the Bronx. As the Assistant Administrator, you will play a key leadership role, overseeing daily facility operations and multiple departments under the guidance of the site Administrator. You will partner with directors of early childhood education, afterschool/recreation, social services, maintenance/building operations, and security to ensure effective operations and high-quality services for families. Being that our facilities are operational 24/7, a willingness to work flexible hours is required. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

Requirements

  • Commitment to HFH’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum5years of experience in a relevant field, with at least3years in a supervisory operational role.
  • Ability to provide exemplary customer service to residents and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Administrator in the overall management and daily operations of the family shelter.
  • Provide operational coverage during Administrator or departmental staff absences or vacancies.
  • Supervise and support departmental teams including administrative, social services, early childhood education programs, maintenance, security, and custodial staff.
  • Assist department directors with staff recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, training, and professional development.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of the facility to ensure staff coverage, operational readiness, and proper maintenance of the physical premises.
  • Work with the Director of Family Services and community providers to ensure families have access to benefits, employment, housing, and supportive resources.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to oversight agencies and HFH leadership, including OTDA, DHS, ACS, and HFH Central Office, and monitor required systems such as DHS CARES.
  • Assist in maintaining policies, procedures, and compliance with health, safety, and facility inspection standards.
  • Report incidents or disturbances that may impact the health and safety of residents and staff to appropriate leadership.
  • Oversee administrative functions such as purchasing, payroll, and petty cash to ensure adherence to organizational procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
