About The Position

The Assistant Administrator for Patient Care serves as an integral member of the Arkansas Children’s Triad Leadership team, partnering closely with Section/Service Chiefs and Arkansas Children’s leadership to advance the shared missions of UAMS and Arkansas Children’s. This is a highly collaborative leadership role for someone who enjoys bringing people, operations, strategy, and data together to improve how care is delivered. The Assistant Administrator helps establish strategic direction for assigned sections while supporting patient- and family-centered care, research, education, and operational initiatives. In this role, you will oversee key administrative, financial, and operational functions for assigned sections while serving as a primary connection to centralized UAMS resources, including Human Resources, Payroll, IT, Facilities, Research Administration, and General Counsel. You will work closely with clinical and administrative leaders to strengthen provider operations, maximize patient access and provider productivity, support workforce planning and recruitment, and ensure teams have the information and resources needed to succeed. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, finance, accounting or related field plus ten (10) years of management experience with progressive responsibilitiy, including supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge in finance, budgeting, and accounting.
  • Knowledge of institutional and departmental business and financial processes.
  • Ability to address problems and/or coordinate resolution with the appropriate campus resources.
  • Knowledge of recruiting, personnel management, and faculty promotion and tenure processes.
  • Ability to manage a diverse group of professional and administrative staff.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the delivery of optimal financial, budgetary, and operational support to the sections and their leadership. This requires rapid response to organizational needs, including adhering to Department budget processes and timelines, as well as assisting the Director of Finance with the creation and management of the budget, preparing financial and variance reports, conducting internal audits and financial reviews, and conducting special financial projects as needed.
  • Develops and implements of the annual budget, including expense budgeting and revenue projection related to appropriated, discretionary, endowment, and gift revenues, as well as grants and contracts.
  • Ensures all reporting and tracking requirements are followed to comply with the rules of the contracting or granting entity and is responsible for compliance with all applicable UAMS rules and procedures.
  • Assists with the implementation of the department’s faculty compensation plan.
  • Tracks faculty productivity, salary distributions, and faculty assignments to accurately report and project faculty effort allocation and productivity.
  • Responsible for purchasing, travel, and financial transactions. May create and monitor recharge centers/core facilities.
  • Oversees prompt payment of invoices and related research of any errors.
  • Provides expertise and assistance to faculty regarding grant/contract preparation, budgeting, and reporting, in collaboration with College or UAMS centralized services.
  • Collects data, prepares reports and compiles statistics for section use.
  • Provides and interprets monthly and annual data to the section chiefs.
  • Responsible for departmental staff recruitment, hiring, supervision, training, and performance management, as well as creating an operating environment where efficiency, effectiveness, and service are priorities.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to management and administrative staff, coordinates activities of the staff, and distributes the workload to ensure appropriate mission support for the section.
  • Focuses on developing a talented workforce by guiding the staff to engage in appropriate educational and training opportunities.
  • Conducts annual evaluations and goal setting with the staff, to reinforce the section/department mission and relevance of each position to accomplishing departmental goals.
  • Works with the UAMS Office of Human Resources to ensure compliance with all UAMS and departmental rules and procedures.
  • Facilitates faculty recruitment, hiring, resolution of immigration issues and requirements, promotion/tenure processes, and performance management/evaluations under the leadership of the section chief.
  • Assists the section leadership and faculty in setting mission, vision, and goals, facilitating implementation of strategic and tactical plans, and monitoring progress.
  • Provides ongoing decision support and analytics for the section.
  • Works with the Section Chief to development/implement performance goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with the Department, College, other UAMS divisions, and ACH on business development activities, such as contracts, grants, and fundraising.
  • Oversees business aspects of section’s clinical practice at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Works with ACS Practice Director to implement clinical practice initiatives and policies.
  • Provides analytics regarding clinical practice and recommends changes that would positively impact the practice.
  • Responsible for working with and maintaining relationships for the sections with leaders at UAMS and ACH.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
