About The Position

The Emory Vaccine Center within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University is seeking an Assistant Academic Research (AR) Scientist. This role involves leading research projects focused on evaluating human cellular immune responses in cohorts affected by HIV and tuberculosis. Key activities include designing, optimizing, and conducting immunology assays and single-cell multi-omics assays, performing data analysis and presentation, contributing to manuscripts and grant proposals, participating in lab meetings and journal clubs, supervising students, and contributing to lab management. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, has a positive attitude, and a passion for research. They should be a team player willing to learn and collaborate, ensuring high-quality laboratory research support with good communication skills. Experience with high-dimensional spectral flow cytometry panel design and optimization, single-cell transcriptomics, multiplex arrays, FlowJo, and R programming is preferred. Requirements

  • PhD OR master's degree and two years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab OR bachelor's degree and four years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.
  • Laboratory experience should be related to area of assignment.
  • Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Leading research projects focused on evaluating human cellular immune responses in cohorts of children and adults affected by HIV and tuberculosis.
  • Designing, optimizing, and conducting immunology assays and single-cell multi-omics assays.
  • Performing analysis and presentation of data analysis.
  • Contributing to manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Participating in lab meetings and journal clubs.
  • Supervising students in the lab.
  • Contributing to overall lab management operations.
  • Performing a wide range of highly technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs.
  • Working with experimental platforms specific to the hiring Program.
  • Experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research.
  • Reviewing literature and applying advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development.
  • Assisting in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Serving as the principal investigator on funded (grant) proposals, with the approval of the responsible Emory faculty director.
  • Performing other responsibilities as required.
