About The Position

The CBS News 24/7 Network is seeking a WGA Assignment Editor to work in its New York City Broadcast Center. This role involves covering the assignment desk, building and prioritizing news coverage for the CBS News 24/7 streaming channel in a fast-paced environment. The editor will monitor news wire services and social media for breaking news, create videos and graphics, and produce social content aligned with the CBS News brand. A key responsibility is writing and distributing daily communications about key events to facilitate live coverage and planning for future events. The role requires collaboration with executive producers, planning producers, CBS Newspath, and other CBS news entities to make editorial coverage decisions and manage execution with bureau chiefs, field producers, and reporters. Additionally, the editor will work with the booking team, field producers, and CBS Special Events to secure guests and witnesses, clear social media elements, and book studios and transmissions. The role also involves assisting in clearing video, securing guests and witnesses, coordinating the ingest of remote feeds, and serving as a logistical contact for CBS News 24/7 Network when interacting with other company divisions. The position may also support the duties of an Associate Producer.

Requirements

Minimum 3 years of experience at a larger market local, cable division, or network newsroom
Minimum 2 years working as an assignment desk editor
Demonstrated experience in coordinating coverage for live television
Available for early morning, nights, weekends, holidays - this is a 24-hour network
Ability to multi-task and adapt to a challenging, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and partners
ENPS/iNEWS familiarity
Familiarity with remote productions, transmission pools

Responsibilities

Covers the CBS News 24/7 assignment desk (including answering phones)
Build, prioritize and coordinate news coverage in a fast-paced environment for CBS News 24/7 streaming channel
Continually and proficiently monitor news wire services and social media to find and identify breaking news and key news developments
Build videos and graphics, optimizing article share language from CBSNews.com for the best performance
Produce Social content aligned with the CBS News brand
Write and distribute a daily division-wide communication outlining key events and happenings to facilitate efficient live coverage; help plan coverage for future events
Work with executive producers, planning producer, CBS Newspath and other CBS news entities to make editorial coverage decisions for CBS News 24/7 Network shows and handle the execution of coverage with bureau chiefs, field producers and reporters
Work alongside booking team, field producers and CBS Special Events to strategically identify and secure strong witnesses and expert guests; clear crucial social media elements also includes booking studios and transmissions
Assist in clearing video and securing guests and witnesses
Coordinates the ingest of remote feeds and serves as point of logistical contact for CBS News 24/7 Network when interacting with other divisions of the company
May also support the duties of an Associate Producer
