About The Position

Assets Protection Specialists help protect guests, team members, the Target brand, and profitable sales by reducing shortage, preventing theft and fraud, and supporting product availability. They use surveillance, intelligence-led tactics, reporting, and Target’s video systems to identify risks and theft trends, document cases, and resolve incidents in accordance with company policies and procedures. The role also involves building relationships with store leaders, public safety officials, and law enforcement, and representing Target in legal proceedings when necessary.

Specialists contribute to a friendly and helpful guest experience, support colleagues across the store, and promote a culture of physical security and safety. The work is fast-moving and physically active, with a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak shopping times. Although the role is full-time, weekly hours are not guaranteed and may fluctuate according to business needs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet applicable state or local licensure and other legal requirements for the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
• Ability to climb up and down ladders.
• Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift; shift length may vary.

Responsibilities

• Create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find products or resolve issues, and thanking them after transactions.
• Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver a smooth shopping experience.
• Support store sales and profitability by preventing and resolving theft and helping ensure products are available.
• Use good judgment to conduct apprehensions in shortage focus areas while following Assets Protection policies and procedures.
• Identify theft trends using technology, reporting, and surveillance tactics.
• Gather and communicate intelligence to help prevent theft.
• Use video systems to monitor theft activity.
• Respond to security incidents and submit required documentation in accordance with policy and procedures.
• Promote physical security and safety awareness, including training team members on safe and secure standards throughout the building.
• Demonstrate inclusivity, respect diverse voices and approaches, and help create equitable experiences.
• Follow safety policies, best practices, and training; report hazards and correct them when possible.
• Maintain positive work relationships with public safety officials and law enforcement.
• Participate in legal proceedings as necessary to represent Target’s interests.
• Perform other duties based on business needs.
