About The Position

The Asset Protection Security Specialist helps prevent and reduce losses from bad debt, cash over/short, civil liabilities, and theft, while reducing shrink and improving margins. The role supports a safe workplace by performing tasks in accordance with corporate policies and applicable state and federal laws, and demonstrates Fred Meyer’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

The specialist provides customer service, monitors areas with high shrink or theft, addresses external and internal theft, reports incidents to the asset protection manager, supports customer and associate relations through communication and training, and verifies compliance with company policies. The position requires flexibility to work any shift, overtime, and weekends on a regular basis.

Requirements

• Knowledge of Fred Meyer policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
• High school diploma or GED, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
• At least 18 years of age, or 21 years of age in Alaska.
• Ability to pass a drug test.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and projects.
• Familiarity with loss prevention terms and processes.
• Proficient Microsoft Office skills.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
• Retail security experience.
• Law enforcement experience.
• Ability to continue education.

Responsibilities

• Model Customer 1st behavior and deliver and encourage excellent customer service.
• Detect, deter, and/or detain external theft suspects.
• Reduce customer and associate dishonesty by initiating and encouraging actions to prevent external and internal theft.
• Monitor large shrink areas in stores.
• Report incidents to the asset protection manager.
• Support customer and associate relations through communication and training.
• Provide credible court testimony.
• Identify areas of high theft.
• Verify compliance with corporate policies.
• Promote and follow company initiatives.
• Maintain flexibility to work any shift, overtime, and weekends on a regular basis.
• Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
