About The Position

As an Asset Protection Detective, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. Using surveillance, investigative tools, and strong partnerships with store teams and law enforcement, you will identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role contributes to reducing loss while maintaining a safe and welcoming store environment through training, observation, investigation, and de-escalation. Responsibilities include identifying and investigating theft and dishonest activity, supporting apprehensions in accordance with company policies and legal requirements, documenting incidents and preserving evidence, and collaborating with store colleagues, Asset Protection leaders, and law enforcement. The position may also involve testifying in court, responding to alarms, supporting special assignments, and facilitating first aid when needed. This part-time position includes weekend shifts. Part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12–24 hours per week; actual hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.

Requirements

Ability to observe, identify, and respond to suspicious activity in a retail environment.
Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with customers, colleagues, leaders, and law enforcement.
Ability to use sound judgment, de-escalation tools, and company procedures to support a safe environment.
Ability to handle proprietary, sensitive, and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.
Ability to apprehend shoplifters.
Ability to sustain long periods of time enclosed in surveillance areas.

Nice To Haves

Experience in retail, customer service, asset protection, security, investigations, or law enforcement.
Ability to prepare accurate reports, statements, and documentation related to incidents and investigations.
Experience using surveillance systems, reporting tools, or investigative technology.

Responsibilities

Use surveillance techniques, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify theft, dishonest activity, and shortage trends.
Partner with Asset Protection leaders, store teams, and law enforcement to support investigations and protect company assets.
Use de-escalation tools and sound judgment to help maintain a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
Prepare clear, timely, and accurate documentation, statements, reports, and evidence for investigations, audits, and legal proceedings.
Train colleagues on protocols that help protect company assets.
Identify, investigate, and respond to theft and dishonest activity.
Support the apprehension of shoplifters and dishonest employees while following company policies and legal requirements.
Recover stolen merchandise and provide statements, evidence, and documentation to support investigations.
Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
Testify in criminal and civil cases as needed.
Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
Foster an environment of acceptance and respect with colleagues, customers, and communities.
