About The Position

Flywheel Energy Management is seeking an Asset Optimization Engineer to own the critical 1-to-5-year value horizon across our unconventional asset base. This is a newly created role that sits at the intersection of reservoir and production engineering — purpose-built to bridge the gap between near-term field execution and long-range planning and reserves booking. You will be accountable not for today's production rate or a 30-year type curve in isolation, but for something more demanding: ensuring that what we underwrote at acquisition actually materializes in the first five years. You'll translate underwriting assumptions into operational milestones, identify where value is at risk, and build the analytical systems to track and protect it. If you're the kind of engineer who gets frustrated when good assets underperform plan — and you'd rather build a system to fix it than just flag the variance — this role was designed for you.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of reservoir and/or production engineering experience in unconventional horizontal plays
  • Strong foundation in decline curve analysis, type curve development, and asset-level economic modeling
  • Experience with ARIES for reserves and economic work
  • Entrepreneurial — you build workflows and systems where none exist, and you're energized by that
  • Comfortable in ambiguity — you create structure rather than wait for it
  • Collaborative but direct — you challenge assumptions with data and respect
  • You measure yourself by asset outcomes, not activity

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with WellView and SQL a plus
  • Multi-basin exposure is a bonus; depth in a single unconventional play is the baseline

Responsibilities

  • Rolling Production Forecasts — Maintain full-life production forecasts updated monthly to quarterly, anchored to asset value targets rather than rate-chasing.
  • Acquisition Milestone Execution — For each new acquisition, define and track Year 1, 2, and 3 operational milestones (return to sales, artificial lift conversion pace, fixed cost reductions) in coordination with Production Engineers and Field Operations. Keep execution aligned with underwriting intent.
  • Value-Accretive Project Pipeline — Continuously identify, prioritize, and scope incremental projects that improve base production performance — workovers, recompletions, infrastructure optimization, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Long-Term Planning and Reserve Assumptions — Partner with the central planning and reserves teams to own and steward long-term fixed and variable cost assumptions, ensuring LTV and asset value are flat-to-up on a bi-annual basis.
