About The Position

Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) is seeking an attorney with expertise in asset management, specifically in fund formation and related investment advisory matters. This role will be part of the Asset and Wealth Management (AWM) legal team and will concentrate on the firm's private funds business across various business units. The attorney will be a key legal advisor responsible for a broad range of tasks, with a primary focus on providing guidance on the regulation, establishment, management, governance, and marketing of private funds. These funds will invest in both private and public markets (equity and debt), encompass diverse asset classes like credit, real estate, infrastructure, and impact investing, and include alternative investment funds, funds of one, and managed accounts. Strategies will cover primary commitments to external managers, secondary investing, co-investing, GP stakes, seeding, liquid and multi-strategy funds, and access funds, with establishments in major global fund domiciles. Additionally, the attorney will assist portfolio management teams with transaction execution for their investment funds and related accounts. Key responsibilities also include identifying legal and reputational risks, managing external counsel, and participating in investment and related committees. The AWM legal team also offers ongoing support for other advisory, regulatory, and asset management issues. Given the significant global regulatory developments affecting the firm's businesses and markets, a crucial aspect of this role will involve contributing to the analysis and strategic response to evolving legal and regulatory frameworks.

Requirements

  • 4+ years related legal experience in a well-regarded law firm or an in-house role
  • Familiarity with fund structures
