About The Position

Are you looking for a dynamic role that combines outdoor fieldwork with analytical office tasks? As an Assessor Field Specialist I, you will play a crucial role in ensuring fair and accurate property assessments across our community. This position is primarily responsible for gathering physical data and structural elements of new construction and existing residential/agricultural properties. You will also serve as a vital point of contact for the public, assisting with and participating in informal hearings and Board of Equalization hearings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • One (1) year of increasingly responsible related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Plus, one year of on-the-job training.
  • A valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record (ability to drive in normal and inclement weather is required).
  • Basic knowledge of real estate terminology, land identification, and appraisal methods.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in basic computer databases and applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to interact professionally and tactfully with the public.

Responsibilities

  • Visit residential and agricultural properties to measure building perimeters, sketch layouts to scale, photograph properties, and record specific structural features (size, materials, construction quality, and condition).
  • Identify, sketch, and record new construction and improvements described in building permits or not currently on assessment records.
  • Meet with property owners during sales reviews and permit checks to inspect and verify real estate transaction details.
  • Assist in preparing for and performing residential Informal Hearings and Board of Equalization Hearings on an annual basis.
  • Adhere to all departmental and County safety rules, regulations, and safe driving procedures while traveling.
