About The Position

The Department of Assessment is seeking an Assessment Technician to work at Town Hall. This role involves providing high levels of customer service to the public, assisting them with forms and inquiries, and performing occasional field work related to real estate and personal property assessment. The technician will review deeds, perform data entry, make computations, compile statistical data, and distribute correspondence. A key aspect of the role is interpreting laws, regulations, and policies governing tax and assessment work to the public, as well as accepting records, reconciling fees, and attending relevant trainings and certification courses.

Requirements

  • Six months experience in an Assessor’s office required
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Customer service experience with the ability to effectively interact with people
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications (Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar, and Drive)
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new software applications and technology systems
  • Must be able to travel independently to different properties to conduct assessments
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Gems.net and Vision software is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the public and provide high levels of customer service that include inquiries and complaints
  • Assist the public in completing forms, statements, and applications in person or by phone
  • Perform occasional field work related to real estate assessment and personal property assessment
  • Review real estate deeds reflecting ownership changes and data entry into mass appraisal system
  • Make computations of moderate complexity by hand or machine
  • Compile, tabulate, and apply standard formulas to statistical data of moderate complexity
  • Type and distribute correspondence
  • Interpret laws, regulations, and policies governing the work performed to the public
  • Accept records and receipts; reconcile fees and payments
  • Attend trainings, conferences, and certification courses relating to tax and assessment
  • Perform any and all other related duties assigned by the Director of Assessment and Revenue or his/her designee
