About The Position

The Assessment RN is responsible for clinical evaluation and disposition of all patients referred to the Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center. Coordinates contact with the appropriate clinical, hospital and community resources. Coordinates with clinicians and hospital staff to facilitate hospital admissions according to appropriate department guidelines and criteria. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Nursing required.
• Minimum one year of experience in Medical/Surgery required.
• Basic clinical skills in delivery of nursing care in acute care facility.
• Good hand eye coordination.
• Ability to develop positive therapeutic interactions with patient and others.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to assess patients' conditions, interpret care plan, comprehend appropriate interventions, evaluate patient response to care, teach patients and families.
• Understanding of patient rights, hospital policy and philosophy of care of patient requiring restraint and/or seclusion.
• Working knowledge of Insurance and Managed Care criteria.
• Thorough knowledge of BMC and department admission criteria.
• Ability to screen and prioritize patients according to clinical needs.
• Knowledge of psychotropic medications.
• Knowledge of appropriate age group(s).
• Able to read.
• Able to write legibly.
• Able to speak in English with professional quality.
• Able to use computer and software programs necessary to the position.
• Able to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.
• Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.

• Current and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Basic life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum one year of experience in age group preferred.
• Minimum one year of experience in acute psychiatric of age group preferred.
• Minimum one year of experience in chemical dependency/detox preferred.
• Minimum one year of experience in psychiatric intake preferred.
• Psychiatric nursing or clinical specialist certification preferred.
• Chemical dependency nursing certification or specialist preferred.
• 5150 certification preferred.
