About The Position

The Thomas G. Carpenter Library at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida is seeking a collaborative, data-driven Assessment and User Experience Librarian to lead initiatives that enhance library services, collections, spaces and digital environments through evidence based, user-centered decision-making. This is a 12-month, non-tenure earning University Assistant Librarian position of Library or Information Science, reports to the Associate Dean of Library Operations and Engagement. Responsibilities include assessment activities across the library while developing and coordinating User Experience (UX) initiatives. The Assessment and User Experience Librarian routinely evaluates assessment and UX practices to ensure they support the mission and strategic goals of both the library and the University.

Requirements

ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science, or related advanced degree.
Knowledge of assessment practices, principles, and trends in libraries and/or higher education and familiarity with UX or user-centered design principles.
Excellent communication and analytical skills, including ability to report complex data.
Ability to manage projects effectively and set priorities.

Nice To Haves

Professional experience in an academic library.
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) or equivalent platforms.
Familiarity with Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo VE, and Springshare products.
Knowledge of best practices related to data privacy, ethical data collection, and responsible use of assessment data.
Experience conducting usability testing or UX research.
Familiarity with user-centered or service design methodologies.
Experienced in evaluating digital interfaces, websites, or discovery systems.
Attains the knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design principles.
Experience with national assessment initiatives such as ACRL.
Creative problem-solving skills with a willingness to be flexible and experiment with new methods and technologies.
Can collaborate and maintain collegial working relationships with administrators, staff, and faculty inside and outside the library.

Responsibilities

Gather, analyze, and interpret, and communicates qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of library services, programs, collections, spaces, and digital environments and to support continuous improvement.
Collaborate with library colleagues to collect and assess relevant data and represents the library in campus, regional, state, and national assessment and UX initiatives.
Lead and advance a culture of assessment and user-centered decision-making, aligning initiatives with institutional goals and accreditation requirements.
Coordinate and support library-wide assessment and UX efforts, including data collection, analysis, and consultation with library units to develop meaningful measures and communicate impact.
Inform strategic planning and organizational decision-making through analysis and communication of evidence-based findings.
Develop long-term assessment and UX plans and maintains expertise in assessment methods, UX research, and service design.
Design and implement assessment methods (surveys, interviews, focus groups, and mixed methods).
Analyze, visualize, and report data (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), developing dashboards and presentations to communicate impact and support decision-making.
Conduct benchmarking and trend analysis (e.g., ACRL, ARL).
Coordinate data preparation for national surveys, accreditation, and institutional reporting.
Lead development and implementation of a coordinated, library-wide UX strategy aligned with assessment and organizational priorities.
Conduct usability testing and user research, engaging users to identify needs, barriers, and opportunities to improve services, spaces, and digital experiences.
Analyze user engagement, interactions, and impact to identify trends, underserved populations, and priorities for user-centered improvements.
Collaborate with library units to design and assess UX enhancements and promotes integration of UX principles into planning and decision-making.
Serve as library liaison for assigned academic department(s).
In collaboration with teaching and research faculty in the colleges, develop select areas of the library’s subject resources by identifying and selecting new materials for the collection and by evaluating existing materials for possible withdrawal from the collection.
Engage with departmental faculty to better understand and meet their library needs, develops collegial partnerships, and promotes library services and resources.
Contribute to overall collection development through participation in the evaluation and development of the collection and in the review and selection of research databases and other library resources as appropriate.
Work collaboratively with library faculty, staff, campus partners, and institutional stakeholders to advance assessment, UX, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Represent the library in campus, regional, and national assessment and UX communities, including participation in relevant FLVC and professional communities as appropriate.
Develop training and documentation related to assessment tools, data literacy, UX methods, and evidence-based practice.
Participate in the planning and policy making bodies of the library and University as appropriate.
Serve on library, University, and statewide committees or project teams as appropriate.
Maintain awareness of current campus issues and developments in library and information science with attention to trends in assessment and UX.
Participate in training and professional development activities.
Participate in library-wide activities and/or special projects as appropriate in consultation with supervisor.
