About The Position

The Assembly & Test Technician I–IV supports the hands-on assembly, integration, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing execution of mechanical and electromechanical sub-assemblies used in large-format laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) 3D printers. This role works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and other technicians to translate engineering requirements into high-quality physical hardware and repeatable manufacturing execution. This position may be filled at the Technician I, II, III, or IV level based on demonstrated knowledge, experience, technical capability, independence, complexity of work, and technical leadership.

Requirements

  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • Relevant hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, electromechanical integration, manufacturing, equipment build, testing, or a related technical field appropriate to the level.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and measurement equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, travelers, schematics, and controlled technical documentation appropriate to the level.
  • Experience performing mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly.
  • Ability to perform functional testing and troubleshoot hardware issues at a complexity appropriate to the level.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and workmanship.
  • Ability to accurately document work and maintain production and hardware traceability.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use or learn ERP, MRP, MES, or similar manufacturing systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technicians and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work with the level of independence appropriate to the position.

  • Experience with industrial 3D printers, additive manufacturing, or complex capital equipment.

  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, robotics, semiconductor, precision manufacturing, or similar industries.

  • Experience with serialized or revision-controlled hardware.
  • Experience with Lean, continuous improvement, or manufacturing process development.
  • Experience developing assembly or test procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and integrate mechanical and electromechanical LPBF printer sub-assemblies using engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, travelers, and work instructions.
  • Install mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, fluid, motion, sensor, wiring, harness, and related hardware as applicable.
  • Perform precision fastening, torqueing, alignment, leveling, measurement, and dimensional verification.
  • Verify hardware configuration, workmanship, critical characteristics, and dimensional requirements.
  • Identify missing, damaged, incorrect, or improperly configured components.
  • Identify potential fit, form, function, manufacturability, accessibility, tooling, or integration concerns.
  • Protect precision, high-value, and high-surface-finish components from damage or contamination.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and other technicians to meet production priorities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other technicians as appropriate to level.
  • Perform functional and acceptance testing of completed sub-assemblies.
  • Execute mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, pressure, leak, motion, and other applicable subsystem tests.
  • Configure and operate test equipment, fixtures, and instrumentation appropriate to the work.
  • Evaluate test results against engineering requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Identify abnormal conditions and communicate test results, observations, and hardware behavior.
  • Troubleshoot test failures at a complexity appropriate to experience and level.
  • Verify hardware performance following adjustment, rework, or corrective action.
  • Prepare verified sub-assemblies for downstream printer integration.
  • Apply structured troubleshooting methods to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electromechanical hardware issues.
  • Use measurements, observations, test data, configuration information, and physical evidence to investigate failure modes.
  • Perform approved rework, adjustment, repair, alignment, and corrective-action activities.
  • Determine when issues can be resolved within established processes and when Engineering or additional technical support is required.
  • Support root-cause investigation and resolution of hardware, process, component, and workmanship issues.
  • Clearly communicate troubleshooting observations, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Support other technicians during troubleshooting and rework activities as appropriate to level.
  • Use ERP and manufacturing systems to record work orders, material consumption, completed operations, rework, inspection, test activity, and production status.
  • Maintain accurate hardware configuration, serialized-part, revision, and traceability records as applicable.
  • Complete travelers, build records, inspection results, and test documentation accurately and on time.
  • Identify discrepancies between physical hardware, engineering configuration, manufacturing processes, and production records.
  • Maintain alignment between as-built hardware and manufacturing documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve assembly sequence, tooling, accessibility, test setup, quality, repeatability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Provide practical feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering based on hands-on hardware experience.
  • Support development and improvement of work instructions, travelers, standard work, tooling, fixtures, and test methods.
  • Support implementation of engineering and process changes.
  • Contribute to transitioning new or evolving hardware into repeatable manufacturing execution.
  • Promote consistent workmanship, configuration control, documentation, traceability, and adherence to engineering requirements.
  • Support training and knowledge sharing across the technician team as appropriate to level.
