About The Position

This role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, specifically 12 UDC and 120v-240v, in accordance with the National Electric Code. The position requires connecting power supply wiring for new equipment and between electrical components, troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning apparatus like transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, and replacing faulty electrical components. The job also includes running tests on electrical components, cleaning motors, continuous technical improvement through training and familiarization with vessel systems, and inspecting electrical systems for damage or hazards. Adherence to all safety policies and procedures, including the use of PPE, is mandatory. The role also requires understanding and following directions, and working effectively in a team environment.

Requirements

  • Vocational Training or equivalent experience in electrical maintenance.
  • Strong practical understanding of OHMS Law required.
  • Strong DC knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot motor starter circuits.
  • Ability to diagnose 3 phase power.
  • Ability to perform motor load calculations.
  • Proficient in Marine electrical installations.
  • Proficient in generation systems.
  • Proficient in general marine electrical practices.
  • Proficient in switchboard and switching equipment.
  • Electrical drawing capable.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Project oversight skills.
  • Must follow all Safety Policies and Procedures at all times including proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Ability to work with fellow coworkers in close proximity in a team environment displaying mutual respect.
  • Ability to work cautiously but efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain 12 UDC and 120v-240v electrical systems in accordance with National Electric Code.
  • Connect power supply wiring for newly installed equipment and/or for connecting cable and wiring between electrical components in accordance with electrical codes, manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Use test equipment to troubleshoot and resolve malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures.
  • Replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, and motors, and position sensing devices, etc.
  • Run tests on electrical components to ensure a safe and effective installation.
  • Clean electric and housing motors on a regular basis with solvent, broom, or vacuum cleaner.
  • Follow a continuous technical improvement process that includes familiarization with vessel systems, equipment, and attending factory training classes recommended or required.
  • Inspect electrical systems and equipment for any damage, malfunctions, and safety hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
