About The Position

Performs assembly work utilizing lean principles (one-piece flow) to produce FDA regulated devices in a controlled collaborative work environment. The role involves joining mechanical and hydraulic components, including basic electrical wiring, and performing finished product testing to ensure product meets established Engineering and Quality requirements. The position requires accurate and legible recording of test results, identification and reporting of defects, and troubleshooting simple equipment malfunctions. Collaboration and cross-training within the department are expected.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, understand and communicate oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving parts and equipment variation while maintaining quality expectations.
  • Ability to identify, communicate and trouble shoot problems.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other employees.
  • Will be required to enter data at a computer terminal.
  • Basic counting and arithmetic skills required.
  • High School Diploma or GED

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge, understanding, and application of basic LEAN manufacturing tools such as 5S, Kanban, Visual Management, and Problem Solving.
  • Previous assembly experience with small or complex assemblies preferred; 1 - 2 years.
  • Ability to perform in-process inspections and testing preferred; 1 – 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret basic Engineer blueprints and utilize Assembly Instructions (“Standard Work”) to assembly medical device products.
  • Manage, evaluate, and assemble components or sub-assemblies accurately and efficiently using small hand tools.
  • Work safely in a demanding environment performing task while standing and/or walking for extended periods (70%-100% of the day).
  • Inspect and perform finished product testing to ensure product meets establish Engineering and Quality requirements.
  • Accurately and legibly record in-process and finished product test results on Device History Record (DHR).
  • Identify and report any defects or problems encountered during the assembly process.
  • Troubleshoot simple equipment malfunctions.
  • Clearly communicate, collaborate, and work effectively with others in a team environment.
  • Cross-train throughout home department.
  • Safely lift and carry up to forty (40) pounds.
  • Periodically bend, stoop, and squat to perform tasks.
  • Support and promote a Safe working environment/habit through adherence to STERIS established Safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain and sustain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Sustain minimum productivity standards once trained.
  • Adapt to conditions as dictated by business requirements.
  • Conform to policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct as provided in Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
