About The Position

Dover Food Retail (DFR) is seeking an Assembler I for their Richmond location on the 2nd shift. This role is responsible for manufacturing and assembling high-quality refrigeration cases and subcomponents. The Assembler I will adhere to assembly traveler/standard work instructions, use various hand, electric, and pneumatic tools, and maintain acceptable performance standards in assembly, production, quality, safety, and housekeeping. A key aspect of the role involves maintaining a clean and orderly work area through 6-S practices. The position requires performing minor adjustments to equipment under supervision, inspecting parts and completed units using various measuring tools, and reporting any defective materials or questionable conditions to leads or supervisors. The Assembler I must follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions from leads and supervisors, and will be cross-trained in various processes and assist with production as needed. This role performs a variety of assembly duties with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk and/or sit for long periods of time
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience working in manufacturing
  • Basic reading/writing skills
  • Basic PC skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to read a tape measure and understand fractions and decimals
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of 6S
  • Ability to read and understand all job specifications
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced and complex environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the assembly or production of component parts into sub-assemblies, assemblies, and completed units adhering to the assembly traveler/standard work instructions.
  • Jobs require the use of hand tools, electric tools, and pneumatic tools.
  • Maintains acceptable performance standards for assembly, production, quality, safety, and housekeeping.
  • All assembly operators are required to maintain their work area and common areas within the area in a clean and orderly condition by practicing 6-S as part of a plant-wide program.
  • Performs minor adjustments or setups to equipment or machines under supervision.
  • Inspects parts or completed units by using visual inspection, gages, tape measures, check fixtures, calipers, or other inspection equipment.
  • Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to their lead person or department supervisor.
  • Must be able to follow SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) where provided as well as follow instructions from lead and supervisors.
  • Cross training of team members and processes and assist with production as needed.
  • Performs a variety of assembly or production duties with minimal supervision.
