About The Position

Since 2009, Gowest Gold has expanded its land holdings to over 120 square kilometres in the prolific Timmins gold camp. Our properties are strategically positions along key geological structures, including the underexplored Pipestone Fault, associated with the gold-rich Porcupine-Destor Fault system, which has produced over 145 million ounces of gold across the Abitibi Greenstone Belt. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the Assay Lab Technician will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, and recording samples of ore, concentrate, and other materials to support mill operations. This role ensures accurate and timely assay results to assist in production monitoring and process optimization.

Requirements

  • Post‑secondary education in a chemical, metallurgical, or laboratory technology discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience, is preferred.
  • Experience conducting acid digestion for gold analysis preferred
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices, chemical handling, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Familiarity with quality control procedures, accurate data recording, and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Experience operating common laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Valid Ontario's driver's license.
  • Strong attention to detail, with well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the effective use of spreadsheet and word‑processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assaying samples on a daily basis: Weighing mill samples for digestion, Digestion of mill samples using the proper procedures, Using a Varian AA240 Atomic Absorption or ICP unit to read the metal concentrations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all samples in the logbook and the computer database: Millrun samples on a daily basis, Gold concentrate samples as they are produced, Mine samples on an as instructed bases.
  • Responsible for the quality and accuracy of all mill samples analyzed: Assays on mill samples need to be done using the proper standards, QA/QC standards need to be assayed at the same time for quality purposes.

  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
