About The Position

NeoGenomics is looking for a Assay Development Scientist who wants to learn to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow. This is an onsite position working out of the Aliso Viejo, CA laboratory with a Monday – Friday day shift. As a Scientist you will apply your deep expertise in assay design and validation, with experience in Sanger sequencing, PCR-based testing, and next-generation sequencing (NGS), along with extensive hands-on experience in sequencing data analysis and interpretation. You will work across wet-lab and data analysis workflows and plays a key role in assay development, validation, troubleshooting, and high-quality data delivery in a regulated laboratory environment.

• Demonstrate solid understanding of laboratory and/or analytical techniques
• Develop and deliver complex directions and scientific project plans
• Capture and record complex scientific data accurately and reliably with attention to detail
• Communicate effectively through written and verbal presentations and use software tools to produce high-impact data presentations
• Problem solve independently and escalate issues appropriately and in a timely manner
• Work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• Operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standards

Nice To Haves

• Ph.D. in cancer genomics or related fields preferred
• 8 or more years of experience with B.S. or M.S./M.A. with 4 or more years of experience or Ph.D. with 2 years of experience required
• Experience in Sanger sequencing, PCR-based testing, and next-generation sequencing (NGS)
• Extensive hands-on experience in sequencing data analysis and interpretation
• Experience with platforms such as Sequencher, SeqScape, Gene Mapper, Innovigene data analysis suites, and others

Responsibilities

• Design, optimize, and validate primers/probes for Sanger sequencing, PCR, and NGS applications
• Hands-on execution of wet-lab testing for Sanger, PCR, and NGS workflows
• Analyze and interpret sequencing data using platforms such as Sequencher, SeqScape, Gene Mapper, Innovigene data analysis suites, and others
• Perform variant calling, alignment review, and quality assessment for Sanger and NGS datasets
• Identify and troubleshoot data quality issues and recommend corrective actions
• Support assay development, RUO/LDT validations, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
• Evaluate assay quality metrics and implement improvements as needed
• Prepare clear, accurate reports/summaries of sequencing results for internal teams and/or external stakeholders
