Requirements

  • At a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • General computer skills are essential, including familiarity with standard Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) products.
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong personal organization and multi-tasking skills are also beneficial, as is the ability to handle normal workloads with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, nights, and weekends as required during paving season.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must obtain KYTC Superpave Plant Technologist Certification within first year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily sampling and testing of asphalt mixes and aggregates in accordance with KYTC, ASTM, and AASHTO standards.
  • Conduct gradation analysis, asphalt content, volumetric calculations, and other required quality control tests.
  • Maintain control charts and other records required.
  • Monitor production and certify test results for use in contract procurement or completion of job quality requirements.
  • Communicate test results and quality issues promptly to plant operators and supervisors.
  • Work with plant and paving crews to resolve mix design or quality issues in the field.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Inspect stockpiles, material sources, and truckloads at plant sites.
  • Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained in and around the lab.
  • Troubleshoot problems and review basic product specifications.
  • Inspect, calibrate, and maintain testing equipment periodically.
