About The Position

This is a DoD SkillBridge Internship for an Asphalt Plant Operator hosted by necoTECH, a construction and infrastructure company in Columbus, OH. The internship is provided by Vets2PM LLC. Applicants must be active-duty U.S. Military Members who qualify for the DoD SkillBridge Program. The role involves the daily operation of a continuous flow HMA plant, interacting with customers and drivers, and performing repair and maintenance duties including cutting, welding, and metal fabrication. The internship aims to develop a diverse set of skills under the guidance of a plant foreperson, covering plant operations, maintenance, equipment operation, safety and environmental regulations, computer proficiency, welding, fabrication, electrical tasks, hazard detection, following directions, and completing daily paperwork.

Requirements

• Active-duty U.S. Military Members who qualify for the DoD SkillBridge Program.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Professional and courteous attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
• Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
• Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist the plant foreperson in the daily operations and maintenance of the plant.
• Inspect and perform maintenance on various plant parts and undertake other on-site maintenance duties.
• Maintain and operate front-end loaders.
• Access all areas of the plant to conduct necessary maintenance and repairs, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Gain knowledge of relevant regulations governing asphalt plant production, safety, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Build competence with computers, including window-based programs and programmable logic controllers.
• Develop practical skills in welding, fabrication, and electrical tasks.
• Detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions, responding promptly and effectively.
• Follow directions accurately and efficiently.
• Complete daily paperwork accurately, including plant production reports, material produced, sales reports, and nightly deposits from cash customers.
