About The Position

Heidelberg Materials is one of the world's largest suppliers of building materials. Heidelberg Materials North America operates over 450 locations across the U.S. and Canada with approximately 9,000 employees. This role operates small equipment and hand tools on a variety of job sites consisting of milling, paving, and grading. The position also involves maintaining the housekeeping of the job site and facilities, ensuring equipment is in good working order, and adhering to all company policies and procedures for safe working practices. The Asphalt Paving Laborer will perform routine inspections and maintenance on small equipment, assist other crew members, fuel and maintain equipment, and complete associated paperwork. This is a physically demanding role that operates primarily in environments with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity, and elevated noise levels.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalency) AND prior relevant job experience
  • Valid/Clean Driver’s License
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to work a varied schedule of day shift, night shift, and weekends due to construction contracts
  • Ability to operate and maintain small paving equipment (tamper, roller, skid steer experience preferred)
  • Working knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in typical site work, milling, paving, grading
  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions

Responsibilities

  • Operate small equipment and hand tools on a variety of job sites consisting of milling, paving, grading.
  • Maintains housekeeping of job site and facilities, ensures equipment is in good working order.
  • Properly follow all Company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, or Safety Manager.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventative and corrective maintenance on small equipment and hand tools if within abilities; escalates issues that are not repairable or safe.
  • Routinely assists other members of the crew as needed, including shoveling and cleanup.
  • Fuel, oil and grease to ensure proper function of equipment and complete associated paperwork.
  • Performs other related activities as assigned.
