About The Position

Silver Star Construction, a local road construction company, is seeking an Asphalt Distributor Truck Driver to drive, operate, and apply tack coat to roadways ahead of the paving crew. This role involves operating company vehicles responsibly and applying specialized emulsions to roadways. The position requires performing pre/post shift safety inspections, understanding machine settings for daily checks, and performing preventative maintenance. The job typically involves a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Commercial Driver License (CDL) - A or B with N-tanker endorsement and acceptable driving record.
Must pass the background check and DOT drug screen/DOT physical.
Must be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
Must adhere to safety requirements and procedures.
Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on road construction sites such as oil, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt concentrate at hot temperatures.
Must be able to work nights and weekends when necessary and overtime when required.
Ability to work independently and effectively with others.
Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.
Constant physical effort, including standing and sitting is required during a regular work shift.
Must be able to stoop, bend, and crouch as required.
Frequently walk on uneven surfaces and climb in/out of truck or on/off equipment.
Ability to lift/carry on a frequent basis, 10 to 50 pounds personally.
Manual dexterity to operate hand tools, controls, and levers.
Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the road construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.

Responsibilities

Drive and operate an asphalt distributor by applying specialized emulsions to roadways, which are then covered by a chip spreader.
Perform pre/post shift safety inspections.
Understand machine settings for daily safety checks of fluid levels (oil, water, fuel) and inspections for leaks and damage to the machine before operation.
Perform daily and preventative maintenance such as greasing and cleaning excess asphalt out of tanks and spray bars.
Transfer from one task to another as the work flow dictates.
Snap or screw on spray bars to attain the required width of spray.
Turn on valves to regulate the flow of material at a specified rate.
Adjust levers to adjust the height of the spray bar from the road surface.
